Antonio Mastroberardino

Where are you from and what do you do? 

I am Italian and I have been living in Paris for four years.  I am a hair artist and work for my company NTO HAIR MUGEN.

What is your education background?

I learned drawing by myself and ended up in a C.N.A.A.S Academy for Hairdressers in Italy.  

I started working on friends for fun.  

What is the first creative project that you remember? 

In Candida, Italy in 2013, I created a small barber stand at a party creating hair tattoos and artistic cuts.  It was the right opportunity to show many people my skills.

What is your signature style/artistic expression to your work?

My signature expression is “hair tattoo”.   I combine sketch or logo art with colors.  With hair there are no limits and with a strong vision you can create anything.

What is the most fulfilling job you’ve worked on or a person you have worked with?

I have worked with many important people in fashion, stylists, music and footballers.  I think one of my most fulfilling and beautiful works I have created was the letter type hair tattoo “PEACE”.  It was a huge success at Paris Fashion Week and on the internet.  It went viral.  My post was shared by many Instagram pages exceeding a reach of two million.  It also ended up in The New York Times newspaper.  

What was your scariest and proudest moment in your career?

I think the scariest moment in an artist’s career is living in a place where what you do is not understood because you are surrounded by people who don’t go in the same direction as you.  It is very important to find the right place and be with the right people for your expressive style. 

One of the best moments that gave me strength and determination to continue was in 2016 when I won the Italian Hair Tattoo Barber Championship. From there I had a new vision and concentration to believe in myself.

What is next for your career goals?

My goal is to work in fashion with influential people.  I would like to create a cosmetics and clothing brand (NTO HAIR MUGEN), which I have already started.

Tell us about the hoodie idea you just created.

The idea of ​​the “PEACE” image on a pink men’s hoodie was born to manifest peace in the world against war.  It was created during Paris Fashion Week.  The idea is that proceeds would be donated to medical services in the Ukraine.

What advice would you give to someone starting out in your business?

Work hard and believe strongly in yourself.  Protect your ideas and carry your thoughts and ideas out fully.  It’s beneficial to hang out with people who can help get you to where you want to be.
