What country are you from and where do you live?

I am from the Netherlands and also live there but for my work, I am based in New York. My agency Blondes & Co is located there.

Title of what you do and what company you work with?

I am a beauty photographer with a specialization in hair.

Education background (art school, photography class, self-taught)?

I started as a Chemical Engineer, and when I told my dad I wanted to become a fashion photographer he laughed and told me to get a real job. So later I got more and more into photography and now I guess he is proud haha.

What is your signature style/artistic expression in your work?

I like to play with hard lights and high contrasts. I always try to find the edge and play with shadows to bring an image alive.

What type of images or people do you like to shoot?

I like to shoot big concepts with a talented team. This can be anything. I still loved shooting in Cape Town with live big scary animals!

Do you have a career turning point or big break that has helped your career?

When I realized you have to specialize in a niche. Not just be a fashion/beauty photographer. If you specialize you will get better jobs.

What was the scariest and proudest moment in your career?

Guess it has been a while, but we shot with live elephants and one of them just grabbed the model. Think the photo was pretty cool, but we felt very tiny with all the power

What advice would you give to someone starting out in your business?

Specialize in a small niche and become the best. Never stop learning.
