Celebrity Stylists Create the Next Beauty Trends with Olaplex

Red carpet season with the Golden Globes has seen a resurgence of strong hair colour looks thanks to iconic celebrity hair colour moments such as Margot Robbie’s blonde in Barbie and Emma Stone’s return to her classic red while walking the red carpet for the premiere of Poor Things.

OLAPLEX is thrilled to share the must-watch trend guide for red carpet 2024 from their team of global ambassadors. Tracey Cunningham, Halley Brisker, Cervando Maldonado, and Jacob Schwartz whose clients will be front and centre this awards season.

Jacob Schwartz

“This award season is going to be all about blondes. You will see many of my #spunwithgold techniques on my clients this year, like Margot Robbie, Sydney Sweeney, and Brie Larson. It’s one of my favorite techniques because it gives the hair such a natural, effortless look. In the salon, I always recommend the OLAPLEX 4-in-1 Moisture Mask after highlights, or at home, use the Olaplex No.8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask. If their hair is dull and lacklustre, I will use the Broad Spectrum Chelating Treatment before the highlights in the salon or in between appointments. At home, use No.4C Bond Maintenance® Clarifying Shampoo to keep the hair fresh and free of hard water and minerals.” – Jacob Schwartz

Working out of LA’s prestigious Meche Salon, top A-list celebrities flock to get their hair done by Jacob, who is known for his exceptional talent in creating some of Hollywood’s signature blondes, including Margot Robbie, Sydney Sweeney, Brie Larson, Alex Cooper and Chloe Fineman.

Jacob has carefully crafted a new highlighting hair color called “spun with gold.”  His “Spun with gold” technique draws inspiration from Botticelli in its conjuring of a gilded, backlit effect to the hair in real life, an overall solid but dimensional highlighting to the hair.  His clients have been clamouring for it, looking for a beautiful blonde hair color that looks lit from within.

Emphasizing light, movement, and dimension, his technique is achieved by using a balance of fine highlights woven throughout the client’s head of hair. It’s natural, yet almost too good to be true — an elevated version of your natural hair color or what you would dream of your natural color to be! The beauty of it lies in that it works on everyone.

While his client is in the chair, he checks the highlights constantly so nothing goes platinum or “white blonde.” He uses a demi-permanent color on the roots and a lighter color on the midshaft of the hair after the highlights are rinsed. The roots are soft yet not dark. The opposite of how we remember the ombré Trend in the 2010s or the money piece “pop in the front.”

He always recommends at-home care in between salon appointments. For his spun with gold clients, he likes Olaplex 4 and 5 to protect from breakage. Jacob recommends a toning shampoo and toning conditioner for his platinum and ash blonde clients, like Olaplex No. 4P Blonde Enhancer Toning Shampoo and Olaplex No. 5P Blonde Enhancer Toning Conditioner. Both neutralize brassiness and boost brightness while containing Olaplex’s proprietary bond-building technology with over 160 patents to relink the damaged disulphide bonds to help keep hair strong and healthy. This is especially essential for blondes who tend to have fragile tresses that need softening.

Tracey Cunningham

Tracey Cunningham the colorist behind Ryan Gosling’s iconic “Ken” blonde and JLO’s sunkissed highlights, predicts that “We will be seeing a lot of high-shine jewel tones this red carpet season like we’ve seen on my clients Riley Keogh and Emma Stone who have both been nominated for Golden Globes. For those of us who want that beautiful red-carpet shine at home, I recommend OLAPLEX No.7 Bonding Oil™, which I use on my clients to give hair that sleek, healthy shine, reduce breakage, and control frizz.”–Tracey Cunningham

Tracey Cunningham’s clients are among the most sought-after women on stage and screen – from JLo to Drew Barrymore, Charlize Theron to Toni Collette, Jennifer Garner to Jessica Biel, just to name a few. The petite colorist treats her clients like family, who have been guided and styled by her for many years. Cunningham has been at the forefront of the competitive hair arena for over two decades, nurturing and perfecting her talent at some of the most prestigious salons in Los Angeles until she opened her own salon, Mèche, with co-owner Neil Weisberg, in 2012. Cunningham’s work has graced the covers of magazines such as Marie Claire, W, Instyle and Allure.

Currently, Cunningham lends her distinguished skills as a Redken Creative Consultant for Color and an Ambassador for the revolutionary hair product Olaplex. She travels the country with her Educational forums and is delighted to share her experiences, knowledge, and world travels. As natural as the color she is creating on each of her clients’ heads, her mantra has remained unchanged over her tenure, “Color should be natural and reflect the hair one had in their youth.” Her tried and tested winning way is a “less is more” approach to style, hair and how she works with each individual.

Halley Brisker

“This awards season ahead, we are set to see a return to more soft and flowy looks” – Halley Brisker. As seen with the looks Halley created for Rosie Huntington Whitely, Alexa Chung and Billie Piper, “this is a perfect antidote to the snatched bun we saw take center stage for most of 2023. Adding a sultry and glossy finish to the ‘blowout’ is the perfect way to make your locks look set for any occasion, including a red carpet. This isn’t just for long hair; shorter hair can look great with shiny flicks and bends. But whether longer or shorter, the key is to smooth that cuticle with the right heat using curling tongs or flat irons. The right prep and finishing products are absolutely key to perfecting any look. My go-to is OLAPLEX’s Volumizing Blow Dry Mist before any blowout for the body and to give you added heat protection, then No.7 Bonding Oil™ to finish the style with restorative shine.”

A Los Angeles native, Halley Brisker moved to London at nine years old with his family. At sixteen, Halley embarked on a career in hairdressing after leaving school and immediately took up positions in a number of top London hair salons, learning his craft on the job. It was here that, whilst still honing his craft, he was presented with an opportunity to help on a photo shoot for a top magazine. An immersive experience, pulling back the curtain on a different world, Halley decided to go head first into publication, film, music video and fashion work. Halley spent the next six years training under some of the world’s leading hairstylists before embarking on an international career of his own.

Halley is an Olaplex ambassador and regularly works on renowned covers for international publications such as Vogue, Elle, and Cosmopolitan. He now also devotes much of his time to his working relationship with Hollywood actors and their projects around the world.
