What country are you from and where do you live? 

I live in Barrie, Canada 

Title of what you do and what company you work with? 

Essential Looks Artist for Schwarzkopf Professional Canada. 

What is your education background?

I entered the hairstyling industry with an apprenticeship, and have since taken as many courses as I have been able to. I strongly believe in continuing education to keep current and to continue to refine, evolve and keep passionate.

What is your signature style/artistic expression to your work? 

My signature is creating and working with different textures. I love creating different silhouettes that are interesting to the eye yet remain beautiful in some way.

Do you have a career turning point or big break that has helped your career? What was your scariest and proudest moment in your career? 

For me, the turning point, scariest and proudest moments intertwine because of the first big leap I took on myself. It was entering a Canada wide competition hosted by Schwarzkopf Professional. It was a contest called “The Next Essential Looks Artist”. I had always admired educators and aspired to be like them, and attended many seminars. When that opportunity arose I felt like I had to at least take a shot. I won, and with that I was invited to two trainings.

Six years later I have been across Canada educating in classrooms, stages and salons. I’ve been invited to amazing seminars in the US. I have won two Contessa Awards and have been a multi finalist in the Contessa and Mirror Awards. Most recently I was invited to be a part of the Global Masters Training in Hamburg Germany with Schwarzkopf Professional led by the Global creators themselves. That has been the ultimate career highlight and pinch me moment.

What is next for your career goals?

I want to keep educating and sharing the love and passion I have. I want to do more collaborations with artists and designers and do more editorial work. 

What advice would you give to someone starting out in your business?

Absorb as much as you can!! Take classes, ask questions and do a creative project. Education will give you the technical patterns, practices understanding you will need to be successful and there is nothing wrong with asking questions. Guaranteed there is someone else that is wondering the same thing and is too shy to ask. Doing a creative project will engage your creativity and your vulnerability.  Sharing a piece of yourself will train your eye in an entirely different way.
