Mark Woolley Celebrates the Legends of Canadian Hairdressing in Toronto
Mark Woolley is a London-based artist, designer, salon owner, and the creative force behind Electric London professional haircare. As an international editorial stylist, Woolley has established himself as a multifaceted creative, blending the worlds of hairdressing, art, and fashion. The Electric Space in Soho, UK, embodies his vision by being much more than a salon—it serves as an educational hub, movie lounge, bar, and art gallery.
The gallery within Electric Space is dedicated to showcasing Woolley’s artwork, which is heavily inspired by British pop culture and its intersections with art, fashion, and music. His vibrant, iconic prints pay homage to well-known figures, cultural landmarks, typography, and themes from both the UK and the US. These pieces capture a street-style aesthetic that feels both nostalgic and contemporary, resonating with Woolley’s unique creative vision.
On November 8th, Beauty Hub Magazine co-hosted a gathering of our industry with Woolley to unveil the latest piece from his “Legends Project” trilogy at the W Hotel in downtown Toronto. This project, a striking collage screen-printed with the Canadian flag, highlights 129 of Canada’s most notable and legendary hairstylists and industry figures. The event was a reunion of industry veterans and an opportunity to honor the artistry and passion within the Canadian hair industry.
The Canadian piece itself is a masterwork in translucent acrylic, screen-printed over the collage in the form of an abstract maple leaf. The collage includes portrait images of celebrated artists within the industry, capturing the essence and heritage of Canadian hairdressing. Harwood King Fine Art, renowned for its work with leading British artists, has published a limited edition of 150 hand-finished, silk-screened prints, each stamped by Harwood Publishing and signed by Woolley.
The original framed artist proof was auctioned off and purchased by Ray Civello, with all proceeds going to Centrepoint, a UK charity that supports homeless youth. This charitable contribution underscores Woolley’s commitment to making a positive impact beyond the world of art and hairdressing.
