“This has always been a dream of mine, being part of the team who create the vision alongside a new launch or brand image.” Niall McNulty
Niall McNulty
What country are you from, and where do you reside?
England UK, Nottinghamshire
Title of what you do and if you are aligned with a brand or company.
Director and manage a salon in Nottinghamshire three-four days a week, I’m also a Global Artistic Ambassador for Matrix.
Education background (school, salons, self-taught)?
I followed the traditional route here in England, school, then a full-time salon training apprenticeship, before building my column on the salon floor.
What is the first creative project that you remember?
I started exploring creative colour and photo shoots and competitions as soon as I qualified, learning and growing from each experience.
What is your signature style/artistic expression of your work?
My artistic style is beautiful, commercial hair. As a hair stylist working behind the chair and an educating artist, I pride myself on being relatable to my fellow hairdressers.
What is the most fulfilling job you’ve worked on or someone you have worked with? Do you have a career turning point, big break, or person who has helped your career?
Last year I was a finalist in the prestigious British Hairdressing awards for my collection Motion. This year I worked on my first ever Global shoot for Matrix! This has always been a dream of mine, being part of the team who created the vision alongside a new launch or brand image.
What was the scariest and proudest moment in your career?
Becoming a Global Artist! This has always been a dream and goal of mine! Equally it was the scariest moment. Before any big job or opportunity I can’t help but feel a sense of imposter syndrome! Questioning, am I good enough to be in this position? But this allows me to stay grounded and be true to who I am.
What is next for your career goals?
I have two immediate career goals: 1 – I want to continue my education classes around the world. 2 – I’m in the process of taking over the salon I’ve managed for 10 years. I have so many exciting plans for the near and distant future!
What advice would you give to someone starting in your business?
There are so many avenues within this amazing industry! My advice would be to explore all of them to find out what inspires and fulfills you the most.
