“Inspiration comes from life itself—everyday experiences, people, art, and the world around me. It’s everywhere, and I draw from it constantly.”
Pablo Kumin
Pablo Kuemin is an award-winning hairstylist, now based in Paris. His journey began in 2008 at the prestigious Kuhn Intercoiffure in Switzerland, where his talent quickly set him apart. By just his second year as an apprentice, Pablo was already sharing his expertise as an assistant trainer—a passion for teaching that continues to define his career to this day.
His innovative work earned him eight major awards within three years, including the honor of being the youngest hairdresser ever inducted into the Hall of Fame. During this time, Pablo also devoted himself to cutting wigs for cancer and alopecia patients through a charitable organization, developing a distinctive approach to wigs that has captivated and inspired hairstylists worldwide.
In 2012, Pablo became the Art Director for Haar Vital, a global leader in medical wigs. In this role, he not only led international campaigns but also designed wigs for the fashion and film industries. His visionary creations have been embraced by some of the most influential names in hair, including Eugene Souleiman and Gary Gill.
Pablo’s career reached new heights when he moved to London in 2015, working as the first assistant to legendary hairstylist Eugene Souleiman for over three and a half years. During this time, he honed his craft while building his career, gaining recognition for his innovative techniques and artistic vision.
Now represented by R-3 Management, Pablo collaborates with top-tier publications like American Vogue, Italian Vogue, and i-D, as well as luxury brands such as Hermès, AMI, and Mulberry. His expertise in wigs spans diverse industries—from medical to editorial to runway.
His wigs has been celebrated at the Getty Museum in collaboration with Tim Walker, and one of his wig art pieces recently fetched €14,000 at a Sotheby’s auction during Art Basel.
What country are you from, and where do you reside? Education background (school, salons, self-taught)?
I’m originally from Switzerland and now based in Paris. I started my career in Switzerland, training at Kuhn Academy, widely regarded as the best salon and academy in the country. I later transitioned to Toni & Guy. In 2015, I moved to London, where I had the opportunity to assist many industry greats. I eventually became Eugene Souleiman’s first assistant for 3.5 years, a role I held until 2020.
What is the first creative project that you remember?
During my first year as an apprentice, I created my own hair collection, which caught the attention of my academy and earned me a spot in a specialized support program.
Where do you find your inspiration?
Inspiration comes from life itself—everyday experiences, people, art, and the world around me. It’s everywhere, and I draw from it constantly.
What is your signature style/artistic expression of your work? How much time does it take to create some of your artwork? What kind of materials do you work with?
My work has evolved over the years, but I now describe my style as having strong elements of grunge and subculture influences. The time it takes to create each piece varies greatly, from as little as five minutes to several weeks, depending on the complexity. In addition to traditional hair materials which I love, the brand Schwarzkopf, I work with more unconventional substances like silicone, fibers, gelatine, and I even experiment with hydro dipping techniques.
What is next for your career goals?
One of my main goals is to expand my portfolio with more large-scale shows.
How can we purchase your art?
I do private sales, and one of my most recent pieces—a wig art sculpture—sold for €14,000 at Art Basel through Sotheby’s auction. If you’re interested in acquiring a piece, feel free to reach out.
